What a Small Group Looks Like

Small groups are not just about gathering for a weekly meeting. They are there for each other year round, all day, every hour. This means that they care for one another, connect with one another, and pray for one another on a regular basis. For example, sometimes people in small groups care for one another in tough times (even painting a house!) or throw baby showers for each other. Even in the summer, when groups aren’t gathering regularly, most groups get together just to connect with one another and to have a good time. You really have to become part of a small group to know what the small group experience is like.

A Typical Small Group Gathering

Every group is unique and they live out the vision of small groups in diverse ways. Besides praying and sharing with one another about how we are doing (and often eating), each small group gathering generally includes a discussion of the Sunday morning sermon. This allows us to bring a sense of unity in the whole church and also helps us to apply (rather than forget!) what we heard in the sermon Sunday morning. But don’t worry if you didn’t make it Sunday morning! You can easily engage the discussion without having heard the sermon.

Here are a few of the series that our small groups have covered in the past year:
  • Eyes Wide Open: A Fresh Look at Justice
  • Living the Spirit-Filled Life
  • Media Exposed: Truth You Don’t Want to Know
  • We Still Believe in Revival

Child Care

Many groups have kids attending. Each group does something different for child care. Most groups have their children playing in another room, sometimes with an adult from the group supervising (depending on the age). Some groups keep their children (especially yonger ones) with them during their gathering. All the groups are relaxed, so it is generally okay if kids are playing, eating, coloring, etc. There is also a group that meets Wednesday evenings at the church during the Kids Club.
